I want to share with you from my recent message, “The Seed of God.” I believe this will help you understand the new covenant, what is taking place inside you, and what God is wanting to do in this hour. “The seed of God” is the new covenant’s chosen people. We know God has a plan for the Jews to receive Him at His second coming. However, in the new covenant, God’s chosen people are the sons and daughters who are begotten or conceived by God through the Holy Spirit. When you put faith in Jesus and what He did at the cross, this activates the Holy Spirit in your life. We are begotten by the Holy Spirit through the seed of the Word of God. This is in direct contrast to the chosen people of the Old Testament, who were begotten by men. God hasn’t forgotten the Abrahamic covenant. Instead, He made it available to the whole world through what Jesus did at the cross. I Peter 1:22-23 says, “Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abide forever.” The New Testament was originally written in Greek, and sometimes those words are untranslatable in English. Where this verse says, “born again,” Peter uses the Greek word gennaō, which means “begotten” rather than “born.” Those who believe life begins at conception know that life begins with “begetting.” Begetting is when the man’s seed fertilizes the woman’s egg. That is when life truly begins, though not birthed until nine months later. Likewise, many things take place in the Spirit which cannot be seen, but are manifested later. In this verse, Peter also speaks of seeds that give life below the surface. The immortal, incorruptible seed by which we were begotten in the womb of the church is the living and abiding Word of God.
One can become a son of God only through the new covenant, which is the promise of God. That promise began to work in you when you were begotten by your heavenly Father through faith in His living Word. The day you got saved, He was begotten in you. Right now, the church is carrying that seed that has been fertilized in the womb of the church, the bride of Christ. The church now waits for the corporate manifestation or birthing of the immortal sons of God. This company of believers will have received the immortal seed of the Word of God. In fact, all creation now groans for this, like a woman expecting a child (see Romans 8:19-22). The old covenant fell short because it relied on men who relied on their own willpower to please the divine law of a holy, sinless God. Their righteousness was based on their ability to keep the law by their own will and works. The children of God, those begotten by the immortal seed of the living and abiding Word of God, are the chosen people of the new covenant who have been grafted into Israel. Jews who receive Christ in the days ahead will be grafted back in, but all sons will have a new identity. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (II Corinthians 5:17).
